WHEN

WHERE

Room PHS 3C50, European Parliament, Brussels.

WHAT

The European aeronautics industry is one of the top five advanced technology sectors in Europe. Moreover, with all its stakeholders: aircraft and engine manufacturers, hundreds of suppliers and R&D centres, the European aeronautics industry is today a world leader and at the forefront in many fields, thanks to its advanced technologies, the high quality and safety of its products and services, and its continuing competitiveness.

This sector contributes significantly to boosting European growth and provides a large number of mainly highly skilled jobs as well as contributing significantly to the EU’s trade balance.

However, the worldwide competition, already fierce, is growing with the emergence of new actors. Meanwhile, the technological challenges are evolving fast, in particular manufacturing digitalisation. There are growing expectations from clients and users, in terms of safety, durability, price and user-friendliness. There are increasing new global concerns: the fight against climate change, energy savings, reduction of the noise pollution and security and defence.

This Second EU Aeronautics Conference will provide an opportunity to high-level EU and national decision-makers as well as to the top-level managers of industry and representatives of R&D centres and users, to discuss through Q&A sessions, how to preserve this European success story and how to ensure long term sustainability.

Crucial issues will be debated in the light of both the “Aviation Strategy for Europe” adopted in December 2015 by the European Commission, whose industrial and R&D Innovation components must now be implemented, and the Union’s “Digital Agenda” as well as perspective of the Clean Sky and SESAR programmes, and of the current mid-term review of the European R&D and innovation programme Horizon 2020.

The following topics will be debated with the panellists and the audience during the working sessions of the conference:

OPENING SESSION:

The Aeronautics industry in the « EU Aviation Strategy »: where do we stand and where are we going?

FIRST SESSION:

Funding, Research & Innovation: key assets for sustainable EU aviation

SECOND SESSION:

Opportunities for the European civil aeronautics industry and beyond

THIRD SESSION:

Which industrial strategy and international policy to support the European aeronautics industry?

FOURTH SESSION:

Cyber and digital: new challenges, new ways and new potential
